Basic Info
Name:Meredith, Princess of Flesh and Blood
Location:United States
Bio

Character Name: Meredith NicEssus
Series: Merry Gentry (book series by L.K. Hamilton)
Gender: Female
Age: 33
Species: Half Sidhe, 1/4 Brownie, 1/4 Human
Sexuality: Heterosexual, though she did engage in a fertility ritual with Maeve Reed.

Appearance: Like most Fey, Meredith's appearance is ethereal and chimerical. She is tall and slim of countenance, and tends to carry herself gracefully. Her skin is extremely fair, often described as sculpted porcelain. Due to her Sidhe heritage, it has the tendency to let off a glow when struck by light. In Merry's case, her skin gives off a soft moonlight hue. Her hair seems to be spun out of dark rubies, a true red that only the best dye jobs can give. Her eyes are made up of three different hues, circlets of three shades of green. The outermost one is the darkest, with the center being a bright emerald. Additionally, her pupils are "lightning-kissed," having veins of gold running through them. However, all that she masks with her glamour. To the normal eye, she's just a brunette with chocolate brown eyes and somewhat pale skin. Being far more practical than princess, especially in this horrific version of New York she's found herself in, Meredith opts for sensible clothing that allows for free movement.

Personality: Meredith never asked to be a Princess. She certainly doesn't want to be one. Before being dragged back into Fey politics, Merry was content leading a rather normal life, especially since she does not have the luxury of immortality like the rest of her family. Ultimately, this is still what she wants: to be free of having to deal with the political games. Even still, she understands the pressure of duty and has acquiesced to what is expected of her. This is Merry's outlook on life: she gets done what needs to get done. Additionally, she is willing to sacrifice for the safety of those around her, which is one of the primary reasons that she accepted her aunt's challange to have a child before her cousin. All in all, Merry prefers to be a happy person, but knows how to take things seriously. She's learned to be very selective in whom she places her trust, and lost trust is not gained back.

Merry is no in no sense a violent person. She doesn't like fighting, and prefers to use it as a last resort. Even still, she is not afraid to do what needs to be done to survive. A life of assassination attempts and living with the less-than savory Unseelie Court has given her the capability to take care of herself, whether it be in the political arena, or in a physical fight.

Abilities: Glamour: Before Merry arrived in this strange desolate Manhattan, she was nearly unrivaled in her use of glamour. She had the ability to throw an illusion so powerful as to mask her fey appearance from even the strongest psychics. Now, it seems that she can only glamour physical traits, and only a few at a time. While she typically uses this to change the appearance of her otherworldly looks, such as her eyes, hair, and skin, should Merry need to mask a more difficult trait like her smell, she would need to drop her other glamours to focus on this. Additionally, her glamour has become a lot more fickle in this world, and large amounts of emotion, such as stress or anger, will rip it.

Fey Magic: While Merry was never very good at casting spells, she found that she was not all that bad at using defensive spells, as well as communicating through blades, mirrors, and water. Once in the destroyed Manhattan, Merry can no longer use spells on the fly, they require determination and preparation, and her skill has reduced to the simplist shields and wards. Additionally, in order for her to contact someone, she has to have something of theirs to focus on, such as a tuft of hair.

Guns and Swords: Being a private investigator, Merry has been trained how to use a gun, her favorite being a Ladysmith. She also knows how to wield a sword, after spending years in a court that refuses to be anything other than old fashioned.

Weaknesses: Merry's greatest weakness is probably her mortality. Being mortal in a place where everyone else doesn't have to worry about death has made her a constant target of assassinations, especially due to her title. She can be hurt just like any other human, and has to deal with those wounds just like any other human. She can't supernaturally heal anything, and therefore has to pick her battles carefully. Additionally, pure iron is another big weakness. While being around it won't kill her like it would a pure-blooded Fey, touching it dispells her glamour, and being bound in it would gradually poison her.

Aside from having huge trust issues, Merry is a somewhat dependant person. Though she would never admit it, she needs to have someone she can count on. In this new Manhattan, Merry is without her plethra of bodyguards, and she has to fend for herself. She's also a do-gooder, and often has to fight with her conscience over doing the right thing and doing the smart thing.

Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider
History: Meredith NicEssus is the only Fey Princess ever to be born on American soil. Her mother, Besaba, was a member of the Seelie Court, and her father, Essus, was a Prince of the Unseelie Court, brother to the current Queen. Besaba hated Meredith because she was the product of a forced union, as Besaba had been married to Essus as part of a treaty between the two courts. This also forced her to join the Unseelie court, which served as a great dishonor to her name. Essus finally dismissed her after a few years, and she went back to the Shimmering Throng of the Seelie. Meredith doesn't remember her mother much, and only knows that one of her titles is "Besaba's Bane."

Essus, knowing that Meredith would be directly be in line for the throne should something happen to him, prepared her for life in the dangerous Unseelie court. His fears were well founded. An assassination attempt was made on Meredith when she was very young. It came in the form of Queen Andais, her aunt, who tried to drown the child. Meredith was saved, luckily, and was placed in the care of a Brownie Aunt of hers. Then, when Meredith was seventeen, her father was murdered. Meredith chose to leave the Sithen, then, and ran away to California. Knowing full well this was considered treason and punishable by death, Meredith changed her name to Merry Gentry, and used her powerful glamour to pass off as a human with some Fey heritage. Her aunt never found her, and Merry went on to become a private investigator.

A few years later, Merry was approached with a very interesting case. There was a cult that was using a powerful magical aphrodisiac to lure Sidhe women in order to steal their power. Merry took the case and set herself up to be bait. The case went bad, however, and Merry ended up falling victim to the aphrodisiac. It melted her glamour and she was finally revealed as the "Missing Elven Princess" that America was raving about. She was saved by Doyle, the captain of Queen Andais' guard known as the Ravens. He explained that Andais had told him to bring her back to the Unseelie Sithen, but not to kill her. Reluctantly, Merry agreed, and went home that night to say goodbye to her normal life. She explained the situation to her boyfriend, a Selkie, and he agreed that it was probably for the best and he could now return to the sea. One last night of passion ended up bringing Merry into her first Hand of Power, the Hand of Flesh. She left the next day extremely suspicious of what was going to happen.

Once back at the Unseelie Court, Andais explained that she was going to put on a contest between her son, Cel, and Merry. Whoever could produce a Sidhe heir first would immediately inherit the throne. Merry, knowing that if Cel became King he would immediately kill her, agreed. After another assassination attempt on Merry by a group nighthags, Merry also was given the best Ravens as her own personal bodyguard. It was with them that Meredith was supposed to try and produce an heir with. Being back at court was definitely not easy. She was forced to deal with politics, make treaties with other Fey courts, look pretty for the human media, and occasionally save the day. She also discovered her second Hand of Power, and with it, gained the title of Princess of Flesh and Blood. Things were starting to look up until she walked through a door in the Sithen that led her into a horrific visage of Manhattan where a huge creature loomed in the distance...
